MAJOR EVENT: Lama Jampa Thaye teaching in Bristol: “A Garland of Jewels” by Chogyal Phakpa and the Initiation of White Ganapati

Date 19/01/2019
Time 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Future Inn, Bond Street South, Bristol, , BS1 3EN, United Kingdom

Lama Jampa Thaye will give the following teaching and initiation:

10.30-1.00 – “A Garland of Jewels” by Chogyal Phakpa

This celebrated text by Chogyal Phagpa was composed as a manual of instructions for the 13th century Mongol Prince Gibek Timur. In 204 verses it covers the entire Buddhist path, from the level of a beginner to that of full enlightenment. The first part of the teaching provides guidance for a good life;the second one outlines the path for liberation and the final major section – the distinctive features of the Mahayana path. The text is beautifully written which makes it especially accessible.  [Lama Jampa will continue teaching this text in Bristol in June and October].

This teaching is open to all those with an interest in Buddhism.

2.30-4.30 – Initiation of White Ganapati (Ganesha)*

Ganapati is a key vajrayana wealth deity. Receiving such initiations and the instructions for practice contained in them empowers us to bring about the supportive and harmonious conditions so important for progress in dharma. This particular lineage of Ganapati was brought to Tibet by the great master Atisha and preserved in the Kadam and Sakya traditions.

*Please note that in order to receive the initiation you must have made a formal commitment to the Buddhist path through taking refuge. If you would like to do this beforehand please contact the centre by emailing:

Fee: £25 (teaching and initiation);  £15 (teaching only ending 1pm). Concessions by request.

This is a facility fee for the event.  There will also be an opportunity to make a personal offering to the Lama at the end of the teachings.

Please note: this January teaching in Bristol will take place in the Future Inn, but the June and October teachings will be in Bradbury Hall, Henleaze.
