10.30am-1.00pm: ‘Discriminating the Three Vows’ by Sakya Pandita (open to all).Lama Jampa will continue with part 12 of ‘Discriminating the Three Vows’ by Sakya Pandita, one of the five Gongmas (venerable masters) who founded the Sakya tradition of Buddhism. Usually taught in the monastic colleges, this is the first time this text has been taught in the UK and so offers a rare opportunity to receive this extensive explanation of the Buddhist path. In this part of the text, Sakya Pandita discusses mistaken ideas regarding the vajrayana vows. This chapter is particularly helpful for anyone practising or seeking to practise the vajrayana, the swift way of practising the Great Vehicle (Mahayana). Lama Jampa has explained that while, as beginners in the dharma, it may not yet be possible to understand all that is contained in the text, by receiving it now, it will be there for us when we can most benefit from it. The text is being taught in consecutive parts in Bristol and London, and it is not necessary to have received the first parts to attend.
Online booking for each part will be available a few weeks before each event via the Dechen London and Dechen Bristol websites. Note: Photocopies of the remaining chapters of the text will be available to buy at the teaching. If you would like an electronic copy of the full text, please email simon.deeming@dechen.org. 2.30-4.30 pm: Initiation of Red SaraswatiFollowing lunch Lama Jampa will bestow the initiation of Red Saraswati *Refuge and the bodhisattva vow will be given to everyone during the preliminary part of the initiation. [Please note that as many people from the Centre will be going to this teaching, there will be no Saturday morning meditation class in Bristol on this date]. |
