Transforming the Human Heart
Open every Tuesday in 2020 except 18th, 25th August & 29th December
We meet every Tuesday in a central Bath venue: St. Michael’s Centre (next to Little Theatre), St Michael’s Place, Bath, BA1 1SG
With us you can practise meditation and hear about the unique perspective on life that Buddhism has to offer, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Sessions comprise the practice of settling or calm-abiding meditation for the first half with advice on posture and the method. Following this we are studying particular Buddhist texts, starting with the ‘Jewel Garland of a Bodhisattva’ by the great 10th century Indian Buddhist master, Atisha. This will continue over the next few weeks or months. The sessions will be guided by a facilitator who will invite everyone to participate in the discussion of topics arising from the text. In this way many different aspects of the Buddhist path will be clarified. At the end of the session refreshments will be available with an opportunity for newer visitors to chat with sangha members, ask questions and find out more about the Buddhist teachings and our organisation, Dechen Community.
The sessions last around an hour, and are led by long-term practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism and students of Lama Jampa Thaye, the renowned British Buddhist scholar and meditation master.
These evenings are relaxed and enjoyable and suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience. Although we are following a text over a few weeks or even months, each week can also stand alone, so do feel free to come along on any week.
There is no need to book – just turn up.
