Buddha on your doorstep – come and visit Sakya Buddhist Centre Bristol
121 Sommerville Road, St Andrews, Bristol, Bristol, BS6 5BX
Whether you are simply curious about what a Tibetan Buddhist shrine room looks like or want to find out more about meditation or Buddhism, this day offers the ideal opportunity to come and explore Sakya Buddhist Centre Bristol.
The Centre is Bristol’s longest established Buddhist centre, starting life in a basement flat in Bristol in 1977 and currently nestled in a beautiful house at the top of St Andrews Park. During the day, we’ll be offering some special events, including introductory sessions for mini meditators and early morning meditation for a quieter start to the day. When there are no sessions running, you can also just drop into the Centre, have a cup of tea or just spend some quiet time in the shrine room.
Please find details below of all sessions:
Early morning meditation – 0800 – 0900
The session will introduce tranquillity meditation, with full instructions. Open to all, children aged 12 and over welcome when accompanied by an adult.
Discover Buddhism – 1030 – 1130
Meditation, again with full instructions, and a talk on a key Buddhist topic, with time for questions too. Open to all, children aged 12 and over welcome when accompanied by an adult.
Mini-meditators – 1400 – 1430 and 1500 – 1530
Tranquillity meditation sessions with full instructions (just 5mins!) for children aged 5 – 12, where accompanied by a parent/guardian. Time for Buddhist stories too.
All sessions are free and there is no need to book.
Opening Times
Saturday 15 September: 0800 – 1600, events at 0800, 1030, 1400 and 1500.

Access
The Buddhist centre is on the ground floor of a residential house, with a step up to the front door. Toilets are not yet wheelchair accessible but are available on site. Parking is available on the neighbouring streets; it can get busy due to the park but there are usually spaces within a short walking distance. The centre is about a 5-10 minute walk from Gloucester Road or Cromwell Road if coming by public transport. We also have a bit of space to securely store bikes if you are cycling.
Additional Information
Although the Centre does hold sessions throughout the year, this is the only time that we are open just to drop in and have a look round. This is also one of the only times we have sessions for children (we’d like to do more) so we do hope to see lots of new and familiar faces on this special day.
Directions
Find us just off Gloucester Road at the top of St Andrews park, opposite the church.
