| Description |
You are invited to join us for a day of meditation at the Sakya Buddhist Centre in BristolThis day is ideal for those who have some experience of calm-abiding meditation and who wish to deepen their understanding and take some time to practise. Meditation sessions will be at the following times , but you can join any or all of the sessions and there’s no need to book, please just drop in. Within each hour we will do two short periods of meditation, with instruction given at the beginning and at the mid-way point: 10.30-11.30 [Our Saturday Discover Buddhism meditation class from 10:30 – 11:30am will take place as usual and comprise the first session of the day]. Calm-abiding meditationThe day will be run by students of Lama Jampa Thaye, the Spiritual Director of the Centre. We will use the instructions for meditation given in his book “Diamond Sky: Preparing for Vajrayana”. This book provides an accessible and practical account of the Buddhist path, including instruction in the practice of calm-abiding meditation, where we learn to settle the mind until it rests naturally in stillness. Lama Jampa describes the common problems encountered when practising meditation, with practical remedies to apply to these. He also describes the various stages of settling the mind.
In-between sessions there will be a chance to relax in the Centre – the shrine room, garden and social spaces will be all be open. Refreshments will be available, with a shared lunch (please bring some food to share if you can). There is no charge, but donations for the upkeep of the Centre are very welcome Any questions?
