Description
Transforming difficulties, developing wisdom and compassion: A day of mind training in Exeter.

Saturday 14th March, 10.30am-4.30pm,

Mind training is at the heart of Mahayana Buddhism, shifting the focus from self to other. These practical, direct and earthy instructions show us how pivotal all beings are for transforming our ordinary everyday mind into bodhicitta, the thought of enlightenment, which wishes to achieve Buddhahood for all. In particular, they demonstrate how encountering difficult people can provide the very resource that we need to move beyond our limited perspective on our relationships with others and dissolve attachment to self. In other words, engaging with this teaching sincerely helps us to begin to remove the focus on self-cherishing and self-protection, from which all suffering originates.

The text for the day will be ‘The 8 Verses of Mind Training’ by Geshe Langri Thangpa, which contains the very essence of the teachings in eight short, memorable verses. We’ll cover the text in four one hour sessions and each session will involve sitting meditation, listening to a section of the teaching, time for reflection, and questions.

The day will be led by Miranda Moore and Rachel Deeming, both students of Lama Jampa Thaye and members of the Sakya Thinley Rinchen Ling admin team.

Lojong is the life force of Dharma practice” Karma Thinley Rinpoche.
