| Description |
Thursday evenings monthly 7.30pm : Recitation of the King of Aspiration Prayers of Samantabhadra The session will commence with a short shamatha meditation and then recitation of the prayer, finishing by 8.30pm. The King of Aspiration Prayers is one of the most important liturgies practised throughout Mahayana Buddhism. Derived from the Avatamsaka Sutra, it sets out the seven-branch preliminary practices and the essential aspirations of one training on the path to full awakening. From the prayer: “Whoever makes this Aspiration Prayer for Excellent Conduct will be free from the lower realms and free from negative friends. They will see Amitabha soon, acquire all benefits and be sustained in happiness. With all of this their life will go well. Just like Samantabhadra they will become before long…………… By making this Aspiration Prayer for Excellent Conduct, through whatever slight virtue I have accumulated, may the virtue of the aspiration prayers for all beings be accomplished instantly. Through dedicating the Aspiration Prayer for Excellent Conduct , by the infinite and genuine merit attained may all beings drowning in the rivers of sufferings reach the place of Amitabha. May this King of Aspiration Prayers bring about the supreme aim and benefit for all infinite beings.” This session is open to all. It is a face-to-face event in the shrine room.
