Week 1:

This year the first week of the Summer Course at Sakya Changlochen Ling will be divided  into three parts:

Sonam Tsemo’s ‘General Presentation of the Tantra Sets’ Part 3

13th – 15th August

For the first three days of the first week Lama Jampa Thaye will be teaching the third and final part of Sonam Tsemo’s ‘General Presentation of theTantra Sets’ one of the most important Sakya teachings about Vajrayana.  Composed by the second of the five great Sakya Masters, Sonam Tsemo, this work is an extensive explanation of the nature and characteristics of the different categories of tantra as well as of the relationship between the tantras and the sutras. As such it is an encyclopaedic resource for the study of the tantric system. The text constitutes one of the major works studied in the Sakya shedra (college of studies) within the Dechen Community.

Lama Jampa will bestow the initiation of Sakya Pandita on Wednesday 16th August.

 

Ngawang Legpa‘Nectar of the Fortunate’

17th & 18th August

And for the final part of the first week on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th August, Lama Jampa will teach the ‘Nectar of the Fortunate’.  This text by the great Ngawang Legpa teaches us how to meditate on  the profound view known as ‘the inseparability of samsara and nirvana’, the indispensable basis for Vajrayana.

Week 2:

Retreat on White Tara of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel

Sunday 20th to Friday 25th August

White TaraThis is a great opportunity to receive the extraordinary teachings of the Wishfulfilling Wheel of White Tara, transmitted in the Tsarpa branch of the Sakya tradition. This system of practice is the principal vajrayana means of achieving longevity.  The course will begin with the initiation of White Tara from the lineage of Vagishvakirti. After this, Lama Jampa will teach Ngawang Legdrup’s ‘Bestowing the Coolness of Longevity, the Oral Instructions of the Blissful Lord’.  This text contains the tri (commentarial explanation) of the esoteric methods of accomplishing the Wishfulfilling-Wheel of White Tara. There will then be a short practice retreat for the remainder of the week, giving participants the time to familiarise themselves with the sadhana (practice) itself.

In order to attend the retreat you must have taken refuge. This will be possible by prior arrangement before the initiation on the first day. Please make your request by email to changlochen@dechen.org or to the organisers at the course.

All extra days are charged on a pro-rata weekly basis

Travel: You can travel by road and ferry, or by rail to Le Bugue or Le Buisson, near Sakya Changlochen Ling. There are direct flights with RyanAir (www.ryanair.com) to Bergerac from London, Bristol, Bornmouth, Liverpool, and other places. You can get a taxi to Bergerac station (best to pre-order from Abeilles Bergerac). The train takes about one hour to Le Bugue or Le Buisson from where you can get a taxi (Archambeau – again pre-order). Or you could share a taxi from the airport to Sakya Changlochen Ling. Alternatively you could fly to Bordeaux or Limoges, both of which are 2 to 3 hours from Le Bugue or Le Buisson by road or rail. From there it is a short taxi journey to Sakya Changlochen Ling. Alternatively you can hire a car from any airport.
