Summer Course Programme 2023

Week 1 – Friday 4th – Thursday 10th August
‘Diamond Sky’

This year Lama Jampa Thaye will teach his newly revised and extended work Diamond Sky (Rabsel Publications 2023), a vital and clear outline of the stages of practice culminating in the Vajrayana, the supreme expression of Buddha’s teaching. Alongside this textual teaching, Lama Jampa will give the initiations of White Manjushri and Black Dzambhala, important Vajrayana deities of wisdom and prosperity respectively.
We are particularly delighted to announce that His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche will make a one-day visit to Changlochen between the 4th and the 9th of August. His Holiness has kindly accepted Lama Jampa’s request to bestow the rarely given initiation of Red Saraswati. It will be His Holiness’ second visit to Changlochen and will make this a particularly auspicious summer course. Further details will be released closer to the time.
Friday 11th – Tuesday 15th August. For these 5 days there will be no teaching programme at Changlochen, due to His Holiness Karmapa teaching at nearby Dhagpo Kagyu Ling. The Centre will however, be open for private practice and we anticipate running the usual Chenrezik puja each day in the late afternoon.
Week 2 – Wednesday 16th – Friday 18th August
Sakya Pandita’s ‘Reply to Nyimo Gomchen’
Entitled ‘The Reply to Nyimo Gomchen’, Sakya Pandita’s text consists of replies to questions posed by a 13th century meditation practitioner of the time – Nyimo Gomchen. This text dealt with many of the burning questions about Buddhism in Tibet, at a time when there was a lot of confusion and uncertainty about what Buddhism actually is. The topics covered range from the relationship with the lama, what prayer is for, what enlightenment is (and is not) and how this is achieved.
Lama Jampa will also give the initiation of Red Tara from the lineage of the Indian master, Vagishvakirti. Among the many forms of Tara, Red Tara is the special embodiment of the attracting and magnetising qualities of enlightened mind.
Facility Fee for the course: £220 for both weeks. £175 for the first week only, £75 for the second week only. Concessions available on request to changlochen@dechen.org. Children 18 yrs and under go free.
