Barnstaple Sakya Buddhist Group celebrated its fifth anniversary on Sunday 24 April. David Armstrong and Liz Godfrey travelled down from Bristol and David presented the famous commentary by Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen on Parting from the Four Attachments known as “The Song of Zhenpa Zhidral”. We were joined by our Sangha friends from Exeter and enjoyed a day of study and meditation…and a delicious shared lunch. We look forward to David’s next visit to Devon in November when he will lead a day of meditation in Exeter.

Sakya Changlochen Ling Working Party – April 2016

Following the long winter recess, a small group of intrepid sangha members visited the Sakya Changlochen Ling to undertake developments and improvements. The work included some initial clearing and path-making in the newly acquired land creating a beautiful woodland walk – which will give a welcome respite form the hot summer sun. Also a major achievement was the installation of a stunning new shrine, expertly crafted over the previous months, at last providing a beautiful and fitting home for the Three Precious Jewels. A selection of new ornamental and fruit trees were planted in the top field along the boundaries, with prayer flags attached for auspiciousness (and to keep the deer from nibbling the bark and buds!). It was great to open up Sakya Changlochen Ling yet again for the coming year’s activities, not least the summer course in August with Lama Jampa Thaye. Don’t forget to book for the course before the end of June to take advantage of the earlybird rates! Thank you again to the working party team all those who so generously support Sakya Changlochen Ling in so many different ways.

Many thanks to all the generous donors who contributed towards this piece of woodland which we have now been able to buy. From the woods there are stunning views across the wooded hills and valleys to the east of the property. The plan is to create a shady woodland walk with benches for contemplation and relaxation out of the glaring heat in the summer - see working party Spring 2016!
